I am interested in merging a gestural with a geometric and minimal sensibility in paint. Clearly a colorist, at times, I limit my palete and develop techniques which mirror the particular themes being explored . In a new series begun in December 2016, I am painting form, space and color against a square format.Working in series, integral to my process is experimentation.

Some  recent work is about the passage of time. These paintings are a dialectic between past and present, control and abandon, and permanence and transcendence. At times, older paintings evolve into new paintings as I sand, scrape and wipe the surface with turpentine, seeking forms and subtle burst of color that become part of the new work's history.  The paintings mirror the ways in which we carry our history with us.
In the work, there often is a reference, no matter how abstracted, to the body. Some of the work is directly conceptual about the female body and its implications. But unlike Dekooning and others, the abstracted or deconstruced figure is not objectified, but rather: the view is an empathic one, where the female form is seen from the inside out. I believe that one of my gifts as an artist is to understand uncertainty, conflict and human yearnings and make them manifest in the language of paint. All of my work reflects the compexity of the human condition.
